Have a Mexican-Inspired Thanksgiving Dinner!

January 14, 2021

Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner. This is the perfect time to surround ourselves with family, friends and of course, food. It is also the time wherein we give thanks to God for all the blessings we have received and are still about to receive. Despite the many struggles we face every day, it doesn’t mean we should be less grateful. To give thanks is the best thing we can do and this is the most important principle behind the celebration of Thanksgiving.

This annual holiday is based on the Pilgrim’s first harvest meal shared with the Wampanoag people.  It was also a day the Pilgrims offered a prayer of thanks and ceremonies for the good harvests.

With the United States filled with many different cultures throughout the nation, many families celebrate by adding a touch of their own cultural dishes in the mix of turkey and pumpkin pie. So this year, why not try something new this coming Thanksgiving and prepare a couple of Mexican dishes for your beloved friends and family to try?

Put a twist on your Thanksgiving dish

Mexican food has always been admired all over the world because of its vibrant, authentic and delicious taste. Its unique flavors and spices give off an amazing taste. Most Mexican food is easy to prepare to require only a relatively small set of ingredients and can create a dish with such an amazing flavor. They are also famous because they have a wide variety of food. More so, Mexican dishes give off the perfect hot spicy taste which makes the people love it more.

For your appetizer, try creating roasted pumpkin guacamole. Homemade guacamole is always something to look for. Roasted pumpkin can add a touch of the season to the menu. You can also add a little kick of spiciness by adding some jalapeño pepper. Perfect for digging in with some tortilla chips! And since no Thanksgiving Day celebration would be complete without the staple turkey, you might want to have Cilantro Lime Rubbed Turkey as the main dish: Roasted Butternut Squash, Beet Salad, Baked sweet Potatoes for the side, and Chipotle Cream Cheese Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

Then, instead of serving wine, try a cocktail or a mocktail to impress your guests. There are plenty of drinks that you can prepare, such as homemade margarita mix, sweet and spicy citrus party punch or sparkling basil lemonade with jalapeños. If your guests don’t drink, preparing a Mexican hot chocolate is perfect. Holidays like Thanksgiving dinner are all about enjoying the food and spending time with the ones you love most. With all this in your preparation and menu list, your plan of having a Mexican-inspired Thanksgiving dinner will surely be a success and your guests will be impressed with how you give your celebration with a Mexican twist.
